Opportunity & Inclusion

At PSH, we take pride in having a culture that values and celebrates differences amongst our colleagues and promotes opportunity and inclusion for all. We firmly believe that one of our greatest assets as a firm is the diversity of each of our employee’s backgrounds, cultures, identities, experiences, skills, styles, strategies, perspectives, and values. These differences enhance the legal services we provide, as they enable us to craft creative and novel solutions for clients that are tailored to meet their unique legal needs. We strive to cultivate a sense of belonging for all employees at PSH – not because they are the same as everyone else – but because they are valued for who they are. Simply put, diversity is a bedrock of our firm.

Opportunity & Inclusion Committee

PSH’s Opportunity & Inclusion Committee (the “Committee”) is tasked with advancing the firm’s values concerning opportunity and inclusion.

The Committee’s objectives include:

  • Embracing our culture of opportunity and inclusion, knowing that the differences within the PSH community strengthens us as a firm, and enhances the quality of legal services we perform;
  • Ensuring a supportive environment where each PSH employee will thrive and perform at the highest level;
  • Understanding and valuing the cultures represented by our colleagues and clients;
  • Giving back to the communities in which PSH practices, through pro bono work and community service; and
  • Collaborating with and supporting PSH’s affinity groups in the furtherance of the above goals.

Members of the Committee currently include the following attorneys:

PSH in the Community

Our commitment to opportunity and inclusion extends beyond our offices. We also celebrate and support the diversity that exists within the communities in which we work and live. Examples include:

  • Every year, PSH makes a financial contribution to Rhode Island Latino Dollars for Scholars (“LADO”), a nonprofit college scholarship fund benefiting Latino and Hispanic students in Rhode Island.
  • Each PSH office designates a Day of Service in which the employees at each office select local community service organization to volunteer as a group.  In recent years, we have volunteered at Rosie’s Place in Boston and Crossroads in Providence.
  • PSH donates holiday gifts each December to the Action for Boston Community Development (“ABCD”) which provides support to low income residents in the Greater Boston area through health, wellness, education and training programs and financial assistance.
  • Similarly, PSH has worked with Children’s Friend in Providence to provide holiday gifts for children in need around the holiday season.

In addition to the above firm-sponsored activities, many of our colleagues are individually engaged in a multitude of community organizations and professional organizations that advocate on behalf of various initiatives that support opportunity and inclusion.

In addition, each year PSH demonstrates its support of the American Bar Association’s Resolution 113, which asks law firms to complete its Model Diversity Survey to help law firms and clients analyze the role that racial and ethnic minorities, women, LGBTQ+, and disabled lawyers play in law firms and on client matters.

Women’s Affinity Group

The Women’s Affinity Group supports the retention, development, and progression of lawyers and leaders; increases internal opportunities for engagement among members of the firm; and partners with clients, professional affiliates, and other community organizations. All are welcome – and encouraged – to participate.

Elizabeth Manchester, a member of the Opportunity & Inclusion Committee, is the liaison of our Women’s Affinity Group:
