Press ReleasesPartridge Snow & Hahn Welcomes Elizabeth Oliveira Manchester

November 5, 20180

Partridge Snow & Hahn (PS&H) is pleased to announce that Elizabeth Oliveira Manchester has joined the firm as Counsel. She counsels individuals and families on all aspects of estate planning, estate settlement and trust administration in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Elizabeth also represents and advises nonprofit organizations and tax-exempt entities such as public charities and foundations, on issues including fundraising, taxation, corporate governance, and planned giving.

Elizabeth joins the firm after a successful career in academia, most recently at Providence College and, before that, at Brown University. During this time, Elizabeth also practiced as a solo practitioner at Manchester Law, LLC where she represented nonprofits in the areas of charitable giving, corporate governance and issues related to tax-exempt status.

In her role at Providence College, Elizabeth was the inaugural sole director and attorney managing the College’s estate and planned giving program. She managed a $60 million pipeline of planned gifts and $48 million in new planned gifts in the College’s last campaign. Elizabeth managed all of the legal documentation required for gifts to the College and established relationships with donors, helping them incorporate their philanthropy in a larger estate planning strategy.

At Brown, Elizabeth handled complex philanthropic issues and helped to interpret and facilitate a variety of transactions. She was one of two attorneys in the University’s Office of Planned Giving, where she helped manage Brown’s $150 million planned giving program. In that role, she handled legal issues associated with the inception of the University’s first donor-advised fund; with deferred gifts such as bequests and charitable remainder trusts; and with planned gifts that generate income for the University such as charitable lead trusts, real estate and limited liability company interests.

Elizabeth has been committed for many years to supporting philanthropic organizations, serving as a board member and volunteer for numerous nonprofit organizations including the Mal Brown Club of Providence College, Rhode Island Communities for Addiction Recovery Efforts, the Roger Williams University School of Law Pro Bono Collaborative, Bethany Home of Rhode Island, Urban Collaborative Accelerated Program, and the Partnership for Philanthropic Planning of Rhode Island. She was also a member of the 2016 Class of Leadership Rhode Island and named by Providence Business News as a member of the 40 Under 40 group of 2017.

Earlier in her career, Elizabeth was in practice with Nixon Peabody LLP, and Davis, Kilmarx, Swan & Bowling, both in Providence.

Elizabeth received her B.A., Magna Cum Laude, from Providence College and her J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law. After almost a decade of practicing law, she returned to Providence College and earned an M.B.A. She is admitted to practice in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, and served as Chair of the Business and Nonprofit Organizations Committee of the Rhode Island Bar from 2016-2018.
