Ms. McCarthy advises clients concerning the federal and state tax, employee benefit, and health care regulatory implications of business decisions. She provides technical tax, ERISA/employee benefits, and health care regulatory assistance in business planning. She also assists in business succession planning; and drafts and evaluates employee benefit plans, including health insurance; non-qualified deferred compensation, and executive compensation plans. Additionally, Ms. McCarthy provides professional auditing services, assisting clients in determining whether existing programs and policies comply with applicable tax law, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, MSP, and other related laws.

She represents clients before state tax boards and the Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, and Division of Taxation, as well as before state and federal agencies and assists tax exempt organizations in obtaining tax exempt status, advises them on operational issues, and intercedes with the IRS on their behalf. Ms. McCarthy also provides advice and counsel to individuals with regard to tax and employee benefits matters including compensation and estate planning.

Ms. McCarthy instituted a firm-wide initiative that encourages employees to support Children's Friend & Service, an organization dedicated to helping disadvantaged Rhode Island children thrive. Additionally she was named by Providence Business News as a 2005 40 Under Forty award recipient for her career success, community involvement and a commitment to making a difference.
