Ms. Rao is a member of the Firm's Corporate Practice Group, concentrating her practice in intellectual property law. She works with individuals, small businesses, start-ups and larger corporations in prosecuting and protecting patents, trademarks and copyrights. Her patent practice covers a variety of technologies ranging from simple mechanical devices to complex computer technologies. Ms. Rao has special expertise in manufacturing, semiconductors, medical devices and materials engineering. Her trademark practice includes various issues of Rhode Island, Massachusetts and federal brand protection, including the selection of marks, prosecution of trademark applications, maintenance and ongoing protection of registered trademarks, and resolution of Internet disputes.

Ms. Rao is also a member of the firm's Entrepreneur Services Team, providing effective legal advice to entrepreneurs in their new business ventures.

Prior to joining law school, Ms. Rao worked in the semiconductor and computer industry for over six years in the field of process engineering. She has worked with a number of top U.S. computer chip companies, such as IBM and Texas Instruments, to improve their manufacturing and fabrication facilities and increase yields. She also served as publicity chair and mentored students for the Society of Women Engineers.

Ms. Rao is admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and the State of California. She received her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law where she earned a High Tech Law Certificate and was a member of the Honors Moot Court. She earned a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. Ms. Rao is a member of the American Bar Association, Rhode Island's Tech Collective, the Carnegie Mellon Alumni Council and the Sierra Club.
